With over 25 years of experience, Karen Almstedt is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in helping adults navigate life’s toughest challenges—including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Her approach is deeply client-centered: she creates a safe, supportive space where you’ll feel truly heard, respected, and empowered to grow. For clients who desire it, Karen also integrates Christian faith into the counseling process, helping to align emotional and spiritual wellness in meaningful ways.
Karen believes therapy should meet you where you are—literally. That’s why she’s passionate about offering virtual therapy, which research shows can be just as effective as in-person sessions—sometimes even better. Virtual therapy removes barriers like commute time, and scheduling stress. Instead, it allows you to engage in the work of healing from the comfort and safety of your own space, making it easier to open up and stay consistent.
Outside of her clinical work, Karen lives her values of balance and wellbeing. She’s a CrossFit enthusiast and avid cyclist who believes a strong body supports a strong mind. Her personal goal? To complete RAGBRAI, a week-long ride across Iowa, in the next couple of years. When she’s not on her bike, she cherishes time with family and finds joy in her church community.
